Construction Site Superintendent
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Reports to: Project Manager or Construction Manager
Job Description:
The Site Superintendent will be responsible for the supervision of construction job assignments.
Responsibilities:
The Construction Site-Superintendent will be responsible for:
- Supervising the construction of tenant improvements;
- Ability to work on tools both electrical and hand tools:
- Good working knowledge of drawings and specifications;
- Excellent communication skills with Trades, Architects, Tenants and Owners:
- Good understanding of construction and it’s phases through to completion;
- Good understanding of the change order process; and understands sub contracts, purchase orders;
- Acquiring Building Permits and Occupancy Permits;
- Maintaining accurate documentation, including drawings & change order information;
- Identifying and rectifying deficiencies in subcontract work;
- Full understanding of Customer Service;
- Liaison between building management/ownership and construction office;
- Business development;
- Responsibility to ensure all company safety policies are followed by ensuring employees and subcontractors follow safe work policies and procedures and proper PPE is used by all;
- Knowledgeable in COR requirements;
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education;
- Strong computer skills;
- Five to Seven years experience with interior office, retail and public area construction;
- Knowledge of leading industry technologies;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Programs and CADD software;
- Strong problem solving, organizational and time management skills;
- Valid Alberta drivers license;
- WHMIS Certification;
- Leadership in Safety Excellence Course;
Assets:
- Five to 7 years experience with interior office, retail and public area construction;
- Certification in a recognized construction discipline, such as C.E.T., AT, EDT, GNT, GIS;
- Knowledge in drafting, estimating and reading plans;
- Ability to correct deficiencies;
- Ability to consistently achieve on time and on budget objectives;
- Ability to solve disputes between sub-trades;
- Ability to exceed customer’s expectations;
- Ability to market the company’s services to the public;
- Understanding of the Alberta OH&S Act, Regulation and Code;
Ideal candidate:
The ideal applicant will be a post-secondary educated, computer literate, well organized construction professional who is familiar with leading industry technologies, has excellent communication skills and a good understanding of the Alberta Safety Codes. Also have a good understanding of the Certificate of Recognition or COR. Experience with interior office, retail and public area construction is essential. Applicants with related industry designations and established relationships with trades suppliers and the commercial real estate community will be given priority.
